After Anselm replies, please close this.
indent They might have flown at the speed they went. He did not feel the cold, wet ground under his feet. He did not feel anything except the holy fire that had consumed his being whole, leaving only a fragment of sense in the hybrid. That fragment was small and told him only two things: follow the scent, kill all in your path. Gabriel stalked through the forest like a wraith, his speed driven by some unnatural force. Anselm was always at his side, a constant shadow, though Gabriel would have come without him. Gabriel would have torn this strange pack apart single-handedly if that was what it took.
indent Soon enough the woods began to thin and they were in an empty graveyard. Maria, grace her name, watched them enter with open hands. Gabriel slipped by her side and into the territory. The trail had begun to mix with others, but they were close now. His speed fell for silence and he began to slink in the dark night, drawing closer to the voices. They were both male, and their conversation was of no consequence. Above, the sky rumbled, threatening to break open yet again. It had been raining for nearly three days without much pause. One of the wolves suggested they leave and the other laughed, adding his agreement.
indent A crack of thunder sounded and Gabriel leapt forward without a sound that by all means could have been a roar. The two wolves spun, but speed was against them. His shoulder collided with the larger male’s chest, sending him flying. Gabriel’s teeth were flashing in the dark, diving into flesh. The male began to panic, kicking wildly against the ground. With a snarl, Gabriel grabbed onto an ear and ripped it clean off. The yowls of panic turned to screams of pain, but he was a man possessed. There was no time, no reason, no sense to this. In the end, the heap under his body was unrecognizable, a huddled mass of flesh and fur and bone. Above, the lightning and thunder continued to decorate the sky, but Gabriel saw nothing but the path ahead of him.
indent The message that he and Anselm left inside the doorway of Dahlia de Mai was a simple one: war.
