Not even when she mentioned her surname his insistance flinched. He hadn't met her sister then. Her face was blank when he insisted on giving her orders. If all this was about her ring, then she could fix that. Reaching up for the dreaded sign of slavery, she grabbed it and removed it from her septum, flinching a bit when it scratched the cartilage inside her nose. "See?" She said, lifting it up for him to see it. "Aye'v removed it nao. Aye'm no longer a sleiv." Had he not been of a higher rank, she would have screamed, but she kept her voice as soft as she could. She didn't want to get into trouble after all.
Turning her back on him, she felt free to speak up louder. "Aye don't 'now why would you say dsat. Aye am no sleiv." She didn't want to be called slave anymore. She remembered her life after her kidnap very well, and she was not eager to pass through again. But the fact that she wore said ring meant that she had not got rid of the habit yet. She hadn't gotten used to her freedom after a long time as a slave, the same way that you can't keep a bird from flying for a long time and then expect it to do it. It took some time to get the creature to feel confident enough to extend her wings. That was why she hadn't gotten of the ring yet. She didn't know how.
