Meet me halfway

[I hope this is up to par ^_-]

So many weeks... that's how long it took to venture here, though it seemed like years. However, at last, her first goal had been achieved. Chapel had not let her parents down.

Those were the dusty brown coyote's first thoughts as she finally reached the border she had sought since setting out on her adventure, away from everything she had ever known. Some said it took courage to do it, but, in Chapel's case, it was blindly following her parent's will. They had prepared her for these moments that would come in the near future; they made sure that the coyote would not fail. Indeed, most would say that Scion Morte and Sanguine Addiction had built up Chapel well, carefully molding her into the pawn they needed to defeat their most dangerous foes, ones that resided in the territory directly in front of her. Chapel stood only pawsteps away from the borderline that separated her from the eternal enemies. First, of course, she had to find them, however it felt like all the puzzle pieces were being set in place... The master plan would not break down. It would remain.

Satisfaction filled the whole of her being, and she felt an egotistical smile slide across her jaws. The female ventured ever more closely to the invisible line. Her eyes slid across the painted skulls that dotted the landscape around her, a threat to all, as well as a bold challenge. They seemed to speak to Chapel, saying So, you think you can beat us? Think again, insolent child. The previous smirk disappeared from her maw as she thought of the implications of these skulls. Did this mean she was allowed no farther? Were they placed here because they knew she was coming?

The sun's rays continued to heat up her back, reminding herself that today was certainly not a day to just stand around. It was time to do what she had been meant to do since she was born.

Chapel moved her small paws only a couple more steps, so she was standing exactly on the borderline. Then, she raised her jaws and howled, for what else was she to do? Eventually, the beautiful melody ceased, and the silence filled the air like a heavy blanket, crushing everything. Time itself seemed to stop and wait for her, as anxiety made her insides coil. What if no one showed up? What if she did not succeed?
