Bouncing through the greenwood [p]

Private for Noss Smile Set on the 5th of August. WC: 827

It was a hot afternoon, the sun was looming high in the sky, just about to start it's descent from the very peak of it's afternoon high. All around little heat lines were rising from the green grassy lands, creating a strange heat haze across the lands which made it difficult to see too far away into the distance. The old wood of the stables was creaking and groaning with the heat, the horses residing within making small snorts and whinnies of complaint, although the shady interior was in fact quite effective at keeping the heat off them for the most part, although the summer time flies had decided to seek refuge in the cooler area of the stables as well, so the horses were forced to swat them repeatedly with their long tails. They each had their large heads poking out over the large wooden doors, their nostrils flared, their ears swivelling to keep the flies away from them. The grass of the racecourse was seeming to brown a little in the heat, there had not been very much rainfall recently and the small blades of grass seemed to be yellowing and crisping a little in the hot midday sun. There was, mercifully, a cooler breeze blowing through the lands, blowing across the ground, allowing a small respite from the stifling heat of the day. There was not even much cloud cover in the sky today, a few small white clouds attempting to cover the sun and being evaporated by the heat coming off of it quite effectively, burning away without much resistance, no doubt there were a fair few creatures in the lands that felt the same way.

Robin had left the house early this morning and had been practicing walking all day so far, she felt she was getting rather good at it, her father's help having helped her gain confidence, she had now even got as far as a small run and even a little skipping motion, although that, like yesterday with the jumping, had ended in disaster, falling over yet again, scraping her sandy brown knee and causing her to emit little whimpers of pain. But soon a rabbit had run past her and the small graze on her knee had been suddenly forgotten and she had been up again, managing a quite quick pace this time, although nothing close to the rabbit's speed, she was not used to her new bipedal form yet and the rabbit's quick movements had proven too difficult to match. She was still clumsy on her feet, she was not an adult yet and her body was lean with awkwardly large feet at the moment, she was certain that she would eventually get it, Daddy had assured her that it would indeed get easier, that she would grown into this awkward stretched form and that then she would be more than capable of running, jumping and skipping along all she wanted. The patchwork girl was getting better at it after all, she was looking forwards to all of the potential adventures her new form would provide, she could climb trees! She could learn to shoot a bow, just like Robin Hood in her favourite book! There were so many exciting possibilities that her tail was wagging wildly simply at the thought of them all, this again caused her to wobble off balance a little, but she managed to steady herself. Daddy had also said that her tail would become more in proportion to her body soon enough and that she wouldn't fall over every time she wagged it too much, she couldn't wait for that to happen, she wasn't going to get anywhere fast if she spent half of her time falling on her bottom and having to get up again.

The little patchwork girl had decided to come to the stables to practice, the grass here was soft and spongy, this way she wouldn't get any more grazes, at least she hoped not, her knee was a bit sore and beginning to sting now, the skin all scraped. Once again she tried skipping, her little bouncy steps covering the ground slowly, partially because she kept wobbling off balance, but luckily not falling again. She got closer to the stables and a large cream coloured fae caught her eye, she had large intelligent brown eyes and something of a sad expression, her white mane was long and was hanging quite a way down the stable door as she stuck her head over it. Robin quickly bounced over to the pale horse, reaching up and patting her nose with a child-like roughness that was not intentional but seemed common in all children of a certain age.
“Hello horsey, how are you today?” She asked the large horse, still stroking the pale quadruped's nose, but more gently now as a whinny of annoyance that the mare had emitted made her realise that she was being a little too rough.
