The fish! She saw her fiddle with her hair with one hand and then realized that the other held the fish from when she'd first introduced herself. He realized that he hadn't really expected there to be a fish at all, so when she'd offered it to him, his mind must have just glazed over it as if it weren't there. Since after all, why would a higher-ranked member offer food to the one beneath her? That didn't strike Turnstone as normal, so he didn't want to do something wrong. Now forgotten, she held onto the fish with one hand. Turnstone could smell it, but tried not to be too obvious about it. He had started hunting again recently with the pack now that he was feeling better, so he could certainly afford to feed himself. He didn't want her to think he was inept, after all.

She replied with a chirpy string of words, one of which Turnstone was quite certain wasn't English. He laughed and replied quickly: "thanks, I think. Benvenuto means 'welcome' right? I'm just guessing since it sort of sounds like the French 'bievenue'," he explained. He glanced at the fish as she shoved it in her bag and then chuckled again. Was that how these wolves treated all of their kills? They were so odd!
