Near water… that is where Liliya could always be found. The woman had an affinity for the entity that strengthened every day. It was thanks to the enormous oceans of their world that she had first come to Nova Scotia. It was by the sea that she had returned to Russia and then back to Canada. It was at the mercy of the great goddess that she lived after facing the colossal waves of the Atlantic so many times, and each day her love and respect for the sea swelled. You were not ungrateful when you were smiled upon by the elements as frequently as Liliya Russo.
So it was no wonder why the woman was drawn to the water. The sea was her favorite – or now that she lived in Salsoa, the bay – but the Pictou would do, or even one of the lakes or ponds that irregularly smattered the landscape. The scent was so different than that of the briny deep but sometimes when she closed her eyes and relaxed she thought she could feel the old waves once more. It would never go away…
And this daydream is exactly what she was focused on when the pup loped along nearby. She heard the light footfalls of the little dark creature and opened her storm cloud eyes, relieved when she saw it was a puppy and nothing more. A half smile crossed her tawny muzzle and she shifted a piece of wood in her hands.
“Hallo little poop,” she said in her thick Russian intonation. Yes, she meant to say pup. She always liked cubs, they were a symbol of the future and of family. Briefly she wondered which family the child belonged to as she scanned her dark visage. She only met one other with a charcoal coat in Salsoa, though there was likely to be several more... The Dark Lady, Madam Eris, as Liliya called her. “Vhat is it you are lookink for?”
