A soft muzzle rubbed against her, and another soft smile was teased out of the scarred loner. Starved of contact that wasn’t violent, Vesper was enjoying the quasi-cuddling and the scent of the she-wolf pressed close to her lithe body. It was strange how someone who’d simply come across her once had become what she’d tentatively call a friend; after all, she had few acquaintances that really struck a spark in her, good or bad. She might have respected or somewhat liked some wolves in the past, but Blind made her laugh and relax, and she felt a lot of warmth toward the younger female.
The thought that Blind didn’t really have anyone like this in her actual pack tugged at her heartstrings a bit—as resilient as they normally were—and she hoped that the girl would find someone more stable to teach her more. She didn’t have any intention of abandoning the Crimson Dreamer, but life was never completely predictable, and she knew some event might whisk her away on her travels again. The thought made her frown slightly, but then the girl’s weight pressed into her more and more until her balance was compromised.
The coywolf grunted as she fell back on the ground, lying partially on her back and partially on her side. Her blue eyes blinked once in confusion then drifted up to Blind’s dual-colored ones as the younger woman announced childishly, “Play time?”
Vesper scoffed, rolling over onto all fours and standing, giving her tawny coat a shake to dislodge the grass and pine needles clinging to it. She gave the girl a once-over then grinned wickedly.
“You’re on.”
Without any of the agility and directness she’d executed earlier, she jumped at the dark wolf—more like a floundering puppy than an experienced predator. Her jaws attempted to capture Blind’s ear and chew on it gently while she tried to tangle their limbs, hoping to trip her new friend.
