He had the initiative to play along with her messing around and she highly approved. The kid was good company and a welcome diversion, definitely one of the better results of the lottery that was socialisation in the Anatheman catacombs. But it seemed these tunnels were wearing on him a little - maybe it was simply a mild youthful discontent, but she wondered if there was more behind his failure to be charmed by their homeland. Perhaps he was lonesome. 'You got any brothers and sisters here, Jackson?' As for herself, 'So far? I adore this place. Its got soul, y'know? Its got secrets.' It wasn't perfect... there was the sunlessness, the strange encounters in the dark, the occasionally stifling silence... you couldn't exactly call Anathema 'charming', true. But it was as resilient and powerful, to her mind, as the mountain that contained it. 'Beats lonering in the woods anyhow, I can tell ya,' she finished, turning the spit absent-mindedly. The meat was beginning to smell stronger as it cooked. She did like to eat old school style too, fresh flesh and all, but the variety you could achieve with the application of heat was too good to ignore.
