About a week and a few days, give or take, had pasted since that fateful meeting with Zalen. The male had helped him find a den near his own territory, a little alcove that rested under a tree, though it was only a temporary home. Soon, as Mordecai thought with renewed eagerness, he and the ebony wolf will be moving north to make a new pack, which they probably discussed every time he ran into the other. He could not wait for Zalen to announce that the time was ripe and the moment able to be seized, but thus far it seemed to be quite a ways off, so the impatient teen took to wondering around the Dampwoods in his spare time. He thought about traveling a bit farther south, but the idea that if he left the area for too long, he might miss his friend’s decision to move north, and he wanted to hear the news as soon as possible, so he only had a limited range to poke his nose into.
He had soon pasted through the clearing where he met Zalen, and continued on through, trotting at a moderate pace. He had treaded the same path not so long ago, and small landmarks were becoming familiar, so Mordecai went along at a lax speed; seeing the same background was a little dull, but he would live for now. Nothing was out of place as well, which made it less interesting for the de Fonte. No different odors, no change in the vegetation aside from that they plants looked more recoiled from the slowly cooling air. He sighed through his nose and continued, ears perked in case they could catch any entertaining sound besides the periodic chirps of the birds.
After about a solid half hour of aimlessly walking, Mordecai settled down on his haunches underneath a naked tree, its branches like skeletal fingers reaching to grip the sky. He just sat and listened for a moment, but again nothing was different, the same old bird calls floating on the wind. He did not even notice, but he had begun to doze off, eyes slowly scrunching and well on their process to close.[/html]
