It was a long walk back from Twilight Vale, but Pilot had reached the dampwoods and was closing in on the distant pack lands. What he really was looking forward to was crawling into his den and resting his paws for the rest of the night. It had been nice to see both Naniko and his son Apollo, but nothing could repair his body now like a good night’s sleep.
The sky was darkening, though it was still quite light out. The sun had yet to retreat beyond the horizon, and only the cover of the trees made the day seem as if it was really a few hours ahead of the actual time. Pilot walked slowly along, eager to be home yet too tired to quicken his pace. His head bobbed just above his shoulders – not exactly a regal stance or something usually seen from a leader. All he knew was he was close to home and he couldn't quite wait to make it there.
