Ohnoes!
Lunenburg was huge! The puppy could barely believe his eyes when he saw the streets and shops. It wasn’t too far of a wander from the Hotel, but he still had whoever had been appointed babysitter escorting him. By now, he’d managed to find an interesting shiny thing and immediately went bouncing after it, but now he was too caught up in awe of the port town to be worried.
He leaped at the gold thing sparkling in the sun as soon as he remembered why he’d come over to the shop. A storm had broken the windows long ago, and there had been all kinds of jewelry scattered within, though this necklace in particular had fallen out onto the road—perhaps lost behind by some luperci salvaging the knickknacks. He knew Mom wore a necklace, and he wondered if she would appreciate the gold chain. He pounced on it, picked it up in his sharp white teeth, and grimaced at the taste of metal. This would be harder to carry than he thought—unless he could get it around his neck.
Feeling very princely, the cub pranced away from the shop window then proceeded to get his caught foot on the chain and fall on his chin on the asphalt. A whimper left him as he found his paws, and an experimental lick produced another metallic flavor—that of blood. He’d skinned the white bottom of his chin when he fell down, and it stung.
It was then that Skoll realized he was alone, but he choked down the alarmed whine that threatened to burst out of his throat. The son of the King did not get afraid like a little baby! He was two whole months old! Quickly shaking his head to clear his mind of his scraped chin, he proceeded more carefully down the road, walking toward the docks in search of someone to show him the way out. He’d thought the port was neat in its size, but now he wasn’t so sure.
