Leon's attention was drawn to sounds several feet away. "Stay here for a sec," he said gesturing for his younger brother to stay put or just explore around the clearing as he turned and curiously headed toward the sound. He peered around the thick trunk of a tree and saw a rabbit. His pink tongue swiped across his upper lip and his eyes went wide and predatory. He silently slid his smaller dagger from his belt, took the blade in his hand, aimed and chucked it with everything he had at it, catching the hare in the side; it let out a sharp scream as it floundered there in shock. Leon was upon it in a second and ended its life before it could suffer more from the dagger, and just as soon as he broke its neck, Trigger was there yipping and whining, instinctually lapping at the older male's neck, face and jaw begging for the meal.
"Aight, aight! I got this fer'yanyways," he said grinning at Trigger and handing him the bleeding hare. The tawny boy immediately dug in after a whine of thanks. Leon stood and looked around, licking his lips hungrily himself. He sure wished there had been another; that rabbit itself was just a snack for Trigger, the two couldn't split it. Trig never even tried to anymore since Leon always insisted he eat the whole of everything he was given. He was growing, Leon was not. He could handle a few more days of no food. He did lick the blood from his blade before putting it back on his belt.
