The yelp Skoll let out when Sophie landed on his throat startled her, and only served to make her back up even more quickly, afraid for a moment that she'd hurt him. But that didn't seem to be the case, as a moment later he was up and growling in answer to her challenge. Of course she hadn't hurt him, though; being so much smaller than he was, she'd have maybe stepped on some place sensitive, at best. She couldn't even bruise him! With that in mind, and a high-pitched laugh, Sophie darted away, eager to begin the game.
Playing with Skoll was so much different from playing with Boothe that for a while Sophie had to remember she really was playing. Boothe was always so rough, hurting her whenever she showed even the slightest chance of winning. Skoll was different; though he nipped at her heels, and his sudden appearance in front of her occasionally made her change directions, he didn't tackle her to the ground or bat at her until she stopped running. Sophie found she liked this game played with him more than she did with her brother.
Giggling happily as he cut her off once again, she skidded to a stop, her legs still moving frantically as she dove for Bug and finally squirmed her way underneath the doll, curling up into the tightest ball she could make. Being so small, the result was, of course, that she disappeared completely beneath the doll, and even the small lump in Bug's body formed by her body soon faded as the sand shifted and sagged around her, effectively hiding her completely. She didn't doubt that Skoll would be able to lift Bug, no matter how heavy he was, and get her where Boothe couldn't; but for the moment she giggled brightly and taunted, her voice somewhat muffled, "Can't get Sophie, can't get Sophie!"
