Vesper hated horses, and she hated twitchy cowards, and she hated having to maintain balance in her optime form on the back of the spotted beast. She was worried about digging her claws into the creature’s rear end, but as the alternate option was wrapping her arms around Helotes for balance, she would take her chances and try to be as careful as possible. Luckily, she had trained for balance all her life, breathed balance, and she managed to survive the journey back to the mansion despite a sore body and an agitated mind.
The woman practically vaulted herself from the mare to land on firm ground, proud that she’d managed to land somewhat gracefully as she dropped into a crouch and shook her head. Luckily, her wounds from the encounter with the wolf were not very serious; he’d been a poor fighter at best. She lapped at the small cuts and scrapes on her forearms, looking quite feral—though the rest of her tattered appearance often took care of that for her.
“Damn fool wolf.” She turned to her comrade, narrowing her eyes and continuing to gripe without further pause. “And I thought you were going to fucking kill me with that horse when you showed up.”
Though, secretly, Vesper was somewhat pleased that he had. It wasn’t out of fondness for him or because she had needed help in battle, but the reassurance that he wouldn’t let her get herself killed soothed her somewhat after their rather tense affairs when she first joined.
Then again, Helotes might have just wanted a scrap. She didn’t know and didn’t care at the moment, though she opted to smirk at him rather than make any other dry remarks.
