she's in lupus (she cant actually shift to anything else xD). word count: 516

She lunged through the valley on tired paws, a child with gangly limbs and a lanky build. Her eyes were almond shaped, large, and bright from youth, but they were tinted with tremor and pain at this very moment. The things she had seen were far from innocent. No child should be able to watch their mother die at such a tender age. As she hit the southernmost part of the woodlands, Aoi felt as if she'd gone far enough. These lands belonged partly to her father but she was a stranger. A child she was, but Aoi was not without intelligence. The five month old pup plotted down her rump and shivered in the cold air, the early sunset of winter already arrived, the night dark despite it being little over 5 pm.

Her cautious eyes flicked this way and that, and she was startled and nervous, her bottom lip trembling to weep had she been able to. The young wolf was barely over the borders, but still felt like she had dared the impossible, and in her chest she felt it probable that she would be shunned from the pack. But this was the place. Before she had died from a mysterious illness, Aoi's mother had told her two words. Alaki, Anathema. Alaki was a name, she had known that automatically, but still had no idea whom it belonged to. And she had listened to others speak of Anathema. She'd heard others say they were from the pack, and had followed them, skulking the back-ally's and shadows like a blind mouse. The girl wouldn't dare ask for directions, she wasn't much of a talker, but she knew she was in the right place. Her mother's last words must have had some meaning to them, Aoi was confident in that at least. She was sure her mother wouldn't direct her to a place where she would be killed. Yet cautious Aoi was, all the same.

She really didn't know what to do. Having been raised in solitude, in the confinements of a cave - her mother had a liking for the dark structures - it was all she could do to stay alive these past few weeks. Especially as she didn't hunt. It wasn't that she couldn't hunt, but she refused to. She watched prey die and saw the same pain in their eyes that were in her very own the day her mother had died. And she couldn't do it. Aoi could muster the strength to eat fish; their eyes were cold and void of feeling, but any mammals and she would threaten to break down. Her diet mostly consisted of plants that her mother had confirmed as edible, berries, nuts, and insects. And so Aoi was a sorry sight, with lanky limbs and a malnourished, swollen build. Through dark fur that spread to a clean white around her face, she saw the world before her and wished she was somewhere else, somewhere not as scary. But even so, she held back her thoughts and tilted her head back, letting forth a young, wobbly howl.
