The slave was chained—a pity. He had wanted some sort of chase, the fast pacing of the hunt coupled with the climax of welling blood. Such ferocity never came to him when even lunging after a deer, as he respected the deer and knew the most basic concepts of their language. He knew luperci, too, but seeing what they were capable of, seeing what he was capable of, it didn’t seem so much of a sin to toy with them.

Besides, this was a test to him. If he could not prove himself strong enough to handle a demon, what would he do when he ventured to make the pact that would change his life?

The fire backlit his form, sending flickers of gold over his outline and highlighting the individual tips of his fur. His face was in shadow, his blue eyes barely visible even as they gleamed with anticipation. Mention of a game made him want to laugh; it was such a cliché, but he supposed Amy had earned the right to use those tactics without ridicule. She’d proven herself to have the power to back up those words.

Her suggestion had the dark, glowering façade vanishing. His brows lifted as he broke out into a bemused grin, which turned quickly to laughter. So she wasn’t kidding about the game! He smirked and nodded once, before lifting a finger to indicate she wait.

“I don’t think that’s quite fair,” Levent protested softly, beginning to gesture to his shirtless form before quickly crossing his hand over to his throwing knife pouch and drawing one out. He twirled it around a claw, giggling, and concluded, “because I never miss.”
