Levent’s padded fingers brushed the edge of the blade as he watched the blonde dog deal with her slave. His arm throbbed when the dagger was planted in the young coyote’s, but his face did not betray any wincing. Such pain was bright but quickly dying unless one had the misfortune of nerve damage and old rain-aching scars. The slave would live, he knew, as he knew Amy would not tolerate his meaningless death. It was a waste of wealth.

Then again, she was wasted. Who knew what transgressions she might tolerate in this foggy state?

The brown wolf chuckled, his blue eyes smiling as she approached him. She called his bluff, and he was about to laugh and admit that no one was perfect when her softly-touching hand grasped his. He let out a yelping snarl as she jerked on it, and he nearly struck her. Only his agony kept him from doing so, and he pulled his wrist close to his chest, feeling for it. It perhaps wasn’t dislocated, not unusable, but the pain blazed through him and was more than enough of a distraction.

Levent growled at her then, teeth bared and gaze revealing his frustration and hurt. Her teeth digging into his shoulder in the bedroom—that he could tolerate in hindsight. This was nothing, a game, and he’d already made it clear to himself that he would not succumb to her games.

And so he turned, judging the distance between himself and the tied-up coyote slave. His throbbing hand pulled back over his head, clutching the blade, and he flung it at Raoth’s ear. He knew his aim was likely off, but he hoped it was off enough to strike the stupid coyote in the eye. He was beyond pity tonight.
