He had left AniWaya in the early hours of the morning, and traveled at a steady pace. While taking a horse might have saved him some energy, Anatole did not intend to push the pregnant mare too hard. It served his role as a scout better to go on four legs as well, for this enabled him to find subtle markers and trails that would better identify the route. Some places he recalled, but after four hours he was far enough north to be without clear markers. Still, he had a destination in mind and while the landscape was somewhat unknown, his general direction was clear.
It was nearly dark by the time he found their borders. The scent perforated the area, a salty-thing mingled with wood and horse. He snorted at it, slowed to a half, and peered ahead. Buildings loomed in the distance, but he had little concern for the human-made place. Settling back onto his haunches the dark wolf tilted his head back and let out a howl, requesting attention from a member. Though his tone was note urgent, it was sharper than one of simple friendly greeting.
