In this case, someone did and Laurel regarded the dark figure passively. That voice sounded familiar, however distantly it was. “Couple of travellers?” he answered meekly. Maybe they weren't supposed to be out wandering in broad daylight for fear that a gigantic turkey vulture would fly down and attack them. And then eat them later.
