Lillith looked at her mom when she mentioned Serenade, one of the many animal friends that lived in the caves with them. Serenade was one of mom’s birds, a white thing, a white shadow just as her mom had said; Lillith didn’t like Serenade, she felt like the bird was always watching her, putting an evil eye on her, but she wouldn’t mention that to her mom. Instead, she looked at her and said bluntly, Serenade is an angel, not a shadow. But Lillith wasn’t even sure what an angel was, only that Zera’im was one now. Maybe Serenade used to be Zera’im, now come back in feathered form. Lillith nearly shuddered at the thought.
At mention of her father, Lillith’s tail went into a tizzy. She was about to bark with joy when all of a sudden the shadow of wings came over them again, the shadows were back, this time circling above them, crying out in a maddening fashion. Then, from the tree line, and explosion of fur and leaves as a huge cat creature came flying out, all teeth and claws and hissing madness. There was even a foaming at the mouth, and Lillith, despite her naivety, could tell the animal was mad. Instinctively, the Behr pup crouched low to the ground, next to her mother’s form, and curled up, ears flatting against the head. But non-instinctively, she raised her white lips over just as white teeth, and let forth and angry and surprised growl.
The sudden excitement of the appearance of the creature faded quickly, replaced instead by curiosity as the cat twirled and wobbled around as if drunk, Mom, what’s wrong with it? She asked, but then just as quickly as the cat had appeared it caught sight of the two of them, and came blasting forward, a ravenous look in its eyes, Mom! Lillith cried out.
