Hotaru Lives Hotaru TalksHotaru thinks

Rambly post is fine WC: 440

Trading was not her fourté, actually she couldn't even be considered marginally decent at it. Hotaru was a genius when it came to craving. Before her injury she could visualize and carve almost anything she desired. Her natural artistic ability and knowledge of wood had allowed her to excel in the field. After her she became blind, she had worked to regain her carving abilities and sometimes managed to create items that could be considered good.

Even so, trading had never been something she strived to work at. She had always carved for her own enjoyment as opposed to catering to the needs of others. Yet, d'Arte was a trading pack and placed a huge emphasis on trade relations as opposed to political relations. Hotaru's desire to fit into her pack drove her to at least try to set up a positive relationship with the scout. She wanted to do something to help the dying pack, and if the coyote ever traveled as far south as Cercatori, perhaps he would stop by to trade with them.

Ithiel de le Poer, it was a complex name that held it's roots in a foreign language. Hotaru didn't really like foreign languages, but at least he wasn't speaking to her in tongues. Hotaru inclined her head slightly in a polite bow. The grey female's heart sank when she heard his first statement. He too could carve and her wares would be of little assistance to the scout. It was her first time trying to set up a future trade, and she had blown it. Or so it seemed. Her light tail moved a little when he spoke of the whole pack. Yes, he wasn't a loner and she could always make supplies for his pack.

The coyote's question threw Hotaru for a loop. Trade was about give and take, equivalent exchange, something she had completely forgotten about. If she was going to give something away, she had to receive something of equal value in return. The blind female's mind raced as she worked to find an answer to his question. Again, the pack came to mind. His second question was no challenge, although she silently applauded his intelligence for the inquiry.

"Cercatori d'Arte is at the very core a trading pack. We always desire healthy trade relationships with other packs and it's members are charge with establishing such relations. Most of us are specialists in one craft or another. As for what I would like in return, items that would benefit the pack are always required, as well as materials for future projects. Furs, leather, or simple tools are always things I desire."
