Instead, she regarded the other’s face with care; a helpless, crooked smirk found its way on her lips.
I yield, Vesper told herself again, one of her own hands reaching up to brush a lock of mahogany from the woman’s face.
She had not kissed another for a long time, it seemed like. This one was only a brief touch, little more than a pair of noses meeting, but the coywolf’s heart and stomach seemed to think differently; they changed places and threatened to quit working. Just as quickly, she pulled away and said casually, “Now let me down, sweetheart.”
She did not trust herself to say anything else. She wanted to run the moment her feet touched the ground, just as much as she wanted to lean in again. It wasn’t as if this was some new foreign feeling, but she didn’t know what to do next, or what Myri would even think, or how they could continue doing anything productive. But she had no regrets, and she hoped that Myrika wouldn’t think she ever did.
