chasing dreams on broken wings

The deep, belly-strong sound of his howl was something that Saul rarely heard anymore, or ever really. It wasn't something he thought particularly hard about- but it was at least a little strange that they didn't howl more. The thought was unexpected to him, but he let it drop as quickly as it had come- clearly there was nothing he could do about the lupine population's lack of vocalisation, and he allowed his thoughts to drift elsewhere. It seemed, to him, that there was always something to do, and his thoughts turned inwardly to the ever expanding list of things he needed to do. He needed to locate his bird at some point- the gyrfalcon had been unsettled since their move and when Saul had finally released him from his wicker cage, he'd flown disgruntled to a tree. Unfortunately, Saul hadn't seen the bird since and he would soon be going to look for him. Not to mention the lists of things he had to do to make the huts he'd just made inhabitable. Often, the thoughts racing around in his mind would overwhelm him and he would shift into his lupus form to run off some of the stress.

He couldn't, however, run away now. He'd just sent out some kind of a signal to his cousins, and it wouldn't exactly be prudent of him to call for them and then leave. He was sure that Lilin wouldn't exactly be happy about meeting strangers either- he had certainly picked up on a closed mind when it came to meeting others, even if she wasn't outright rude. He didn't exactly blame her though- it wasn't everyone's forte to accept everything thrown their way. Sitting on one of the many rocks and boulders that surrounded the area, Saul allowed his thoughts to pull him deeper down into the lack of awareness that he really shouldn't allow himself to succumb to. He was, for the moment, his small families only protector and he should be alert, wary and on the ball. It was this lack of awareness, the internalisation of his thoughts that caused him to jerk upright as a hand connected with his back. Green eyes fixed on the caramel chocolate of his cousin Bran, a smile spreading across his lips as he rose to meet his relative in a shoulder bump.

Thank you for coming Bran, Niernan... Its good to see you again. He said softly, reaching out to embrace Niernan before his sons exuberance exploded on them all. With a grin, Saul looked down at his son, who was attempting to climb up Niernan's leg. "Hello Uncle Niernan and Bran" He squeaked, his speech marginally better than the first time the two had met his bundle of energy. A subtle shift behind him told him instinctively that Lilin was there, and his heart picked up speed, an uneasy feeling in his stomach. As he turned, he noted her defensive position, her wary look, and a brilliant smile reached his lips. If there was one thing he could say about her, at least she was constant. He took a step back and closer to his black and brown cousin, his heart still beating uncomfortably fast. This had only started happening recently and he had no idea why. Ignoring it as best he could, he offered a hand out to bring her into the conversation.

Lilin, this is Bran and Niernan Stormbringer... our cousins somewhere along the line. I told you about them when I found you in Hilsburn... He prompted, hoping she remembered their conversation. Looking back over to the brothers, he went to introduce their female cousin. And boys, this is Lilin Soulstorm, a cousin of ours from God knows where along the line. He chuckled, his face open and excited to be reuniting at least a little of his family. Hoping that they would get along, he waited for the rest to speak.
