I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in

"Hey." She recognized the scarred orange male waving at her. He was without the white deer this time, and idly, Alma wondered where it went and where it was kept when he wasn't with it. "You look to be without an axe. Here, take this one." She held one out for him to take, handle first. The coyote woman wasn't bothered by his lack of a smile; some of the clan were similarly inexpressive, though for different reasons.

There was a slight pause as Alma remembered that the boy didn't talk last time she had met him, and probably wouldn't talk now. Communication between them was going to be difficult, if he tried to use that notepad with the unrecognizable scribblings on them. She made a mental note to find someone to teach her to read, perhaps when the whole project was finished. For now, she'd just have to make due with observing his gestures and body language. Cutting up wood was a fairly simple task - maybe they could get by.

A white, almost wolfish looking male on a dark horse approached them. She gave him a nod in recognition; she'd seen him beside Ezekiel at pack meetings before. "Glad you brought a horse. That'll make things easier." The edge of Alma's lips curled into a very slight, self-deprecating smile, remembering how often she had overestimated her own strength and cut down more tree than she could carry. A pack animal like that would have been useful during many of her woodcutting expeditions, and now it would be even more useful. She predicted they would need a lot of wood, and making back and forth trips would make the task even longer. "To the Dampwoods, outside our borders. Inferni's own forest is too useful to cut down."
