On my own

He came in regularly with food for Kiara. His worries had been increasing, noting the fact that the pack borders had grown weaker and weaker. Only a single scent marked along there now. Worried Tharin broke all protocol, cutting over the border. He raced for where he knew Kiara's den was, dropping the grouse that he'd captured. His movement was reckless, following the path he'd crossed before. He almost ran into another wolf on his way, snarling as he passed by in his rush to reach her side. She had pups! The pack had fallen, and a single mother on her own was no laughing matter.

He entered the clearing, spotting Kiara cautiously tucked near the stream. His eyes lingered on her for a second, making sure there were no new injuries before his attention flipped to the large golden wolf that was there, a kill hanging at her feet. His mind screamed threat, immediately leaping forward to protect the one that he had claimed as pack, if not by scent then by heart. He stood between them, hackles raised. It was a second before he realized their scents were mingled, relaxing down again. Turning he looked over Kiara, nudging her softly. What happened?
