grasped so delicate by one's eye
Tayui certainly had not expected to see another face in these parts: not when she was so close to Anathema and Inferni’s borders; and she certainly had not expected to see a familiar face, either. She had met her fair share of new luperci (such as that bothersome wolf by the beach), but she was always pleasantly surprised to run into a friend from the past. She never had been sure from whence Jaden hailed; he had been aggressive and moody at first, but had simmered down into a somewhat respectable wolf. Her memories of him were coloured by their first interaction, which left little room for questioning; and their later encounters were dominated by their determination. Certainly, they had gotten off to a rocky start, but they’d mended that fence fairly quickly.

“Comrade--Jaden,” she replied. Warmth coated her voice like honey. Hearing her own voice pulled her from her musings and made her realize that he was really here. “Well enough,” she said in response to his question. “And where are you now? How did you fare after the attack? You look well,” she began, but paused as she took stock of his limp, “or, alive at least, which is a relief.”
