Vesper was not “honorable” by any means; she’d kick sand in an opponent’s face, swing around so that they needed to face a rising or setting sun, and perform just about any conceivable trick she needed if she was in a tight spot. However, she wasn’t one for pranks or traps like she’d heard about in the Coyote stories. Her goal had always been direct: a tawpie’s vengeance, for a while, and survival when she wizened up, and eventually the drive for survival expanded to include that of her clan. It didn’t make sense for her to play around in the way of elaborate pranks.
But she did agree with Terra about needing tricks to fall back on, and nodded lightly. “Any canine can use tricks, but us little coyotes tend to need them more,” she decided. She wasn’t sure what to say about it being all their legacy; it felt too much like a religion rather than a bunch of helpful stories, and Ves wasn’t about to adopt any religion.
A dark paw batted at her. Lips drew back to show sharp teeth, still white enough to betray her youth. The growl that rumbled forth was too high-pitched to be threatening, and the rest of her posture took on a ridiculous air, becoming too puffed up to be anything but a parody. She managed to let her hunched back and flattened ear relax when the other mentioned disguises, and then her tail lashed behind her.
“Oh, but what would you need those for?” Vesper asked teasingly, wondering just what this coywolf got into. She uncoiled all at once then, jumping at the other and aiming to nip her. “Are you a wanted criminal or something?” Her pale paws flailed ineffectually at a brown shoulder.
