Prey Can't Run Far

She noticed the vigor within the girl as she tracked down the deer, so she tried to make her words brief. It was like her excitement was contagious, since Alyssum, a woman of extreme patience when it came to most things, began to feel a little anxious. But, she masked her exhilaration until she and Adelle split up to side their proper flanks. Only then did she allow a big smile to cross her muzzle, and had to be careful not to walk forward too fast, or she would break the silent stalk she was performing.

Like she had said, she saw the beast soon after a few minutes of moving through the foliage. For a moment, she could have sworn she could have seen a large shape looming a couple of meters away, but it was hidden away as soon as she saw it. Quietly, she unsheathed an arrow from her quiver and notched it into place on the bow. She waited a moment, listening to the things around her. Everything was silent but for the deer's occasional steps that stirred the plants under it.

Casually, she whistled something that was akin to a bird, but the tune was not native to these woods. Anybody who hunted there would notice the foreign call. A half-second later, she released the arrow, and it sailed quickly into the air and implanted itself cleanly into its left foreleg, right where its elbow connected with its shoulder. She grinned slyly as it expectedly reeled to the right, where Adelle waited.

Standing up from her place to keep the deer running in that direction and to see what would happen, it was all up to the girl now.
