This was a rare moment of twisted clarity for him, and he revelled in it. Things that had seemed wrong for some time had suddenly flipped and seemed only right, and would give him the strength it required to walk up the stony steps to the two sitting on the throne and speak his mind once and for all. Pandemic had not been born to Salsola, but he might as well have been, for this pack and its members were all there was. Only the blood was more important. Simple and clear, and he felt only numbness for the rest of the world.
He smiled into his mother’s hair at her delicious words. He nodded, willing this to be true. It was here he belonged, and it was important to hear others confirm this as well. Hopefully others would be able to realize this as well. Strange how little it took to build up his confidence about the choice he was about to make.
