These lands seem bare

Ooc-Date: 18th Sept-Tali is in Lupus form. (Word count: 564) Don't worry about trying to meet my post length. Smile

The field was covered in the brown coats of Whitetail deer. Tali licked her lips at the thought of meat. She'd finished exploring and meeting everyone in her pack, New Dawn, and now it was time to show what she could offer. But more than just to please her pack, Tali wanted to feel the thrill of hunting again.

She eyeballed the deer from the edge of the treeline, since her time in New Dawn, she'd never ventured into the neutral lands, they felt bare and lonely compared to the beauty of New Dawn. Making sure to stay down wind of the deer, so that they didn't catch her scent, she began crawling closer to the herd. Soon she was only a few metres away from the nearest deer, she quickly glance to the treeline on the other side of the herd, at the end of her vision was a trap she'd laid before moving towards the deer.

It was simple trap, and wasn't really a trap at all. It was just a rope attached to a tree branch; she'd forced the branch back, so it bent downwards. The rope wasn't very strong and, if Tali had guessed right, would break soon. Once the rope broke, it would send the branch up, cause it to snap or at least make a rustling noise to startle the herd. Tali hoped this startle would force the herd to run away from the noise- and straight towards Tali.

Tali smiled, her father had taught her this method, it was a unique hunting style passed down her family, and had worked wonders for her parents pack. Now she hoped it would do the same for hers.
She had little time to think before a snap and rustle broke through the silence. At once the herd lifted their heads from grazing and, after realising the direction of the noise, rushed towards the hidden she-wolf. Some ran past Tali, towards the trees on either side of the noise and her, but soon an unlucky deer ran straight towards Tali. It was a young adult, and looked quite confused by the whole experience. The thunder of hooves filled Tali's ears, but she was ready.

Using her hind legs like a spring Tali jumped, jaws wide, at the creatures neck. They sunk in like a stone sinks in water, and Tali quickly clamped her teeth around the young deer’s throat. Before she knew it, she was travelling with the deer, her back legs scraping against the soft grass. It felt like minutes before the deer finally gave up and collapsed onto the ground. Both wolf and deer lay on the ground for an additional two minutes, before Tali finally released her clamp on the deer’s neck.

She licked at the blood that caught on her muzzle, as she gazed at the deer. It blinked one last time before staring endlessly. Tali panted with relief and sat down; she licked at her minor cuts from being dragged as she regained some strength. By now, all other deer had made themselves distant, leaving Tali and her kill in peace.
She didn’t think of eating part of the kill, but waited until she had enough energy to carry her kill back to the waiting pack.
