_____Out to the west of their camp lied more of the dense forestry that Laurel hadn't really explored. The last time he had made his way out there, he had ended up finding another shore and with it a rather nasty woman from Dahlia de Mai. Since then, since the sickness had spread, he hadn't really stepped away from Esper Hollow at all. Booze bottle in hand, he decided to drag himself away from the area long enough to clear his mind and think. There wasn't even hardly enough alcohol left on hand to phase him, which was probably a good thing.

_____If it was one thing he had remembered from his night with Nikita, it was her telling him about keeping up appearances. But out there in the depths of the dark forest, there wasn't really anyone to keep up appearances to, other than the trees. Most of the activity, from travellers to passer-bys had come from their east. So the more quiet, more dark and deep the west seemed, the more allure it had to it. But he couldn't stay away too long, he had been needed much more than before and seemingly looked at as more of a leader than the days before. So in honour (or dismay) of that, he took a long swig from the bottle.

_____“I don't feel like being a sentimentalist today,” came his voice to break the quiet night air, singing to himself simply out of habit. When the words failed him, he carried on humming, sauntering around so loosely that it almost seemed like he didn't have a single problem in the world. If only that were true, if only. But eventually things would be better, he hoped. Whether they buried the dead or they got better, things would go back to the normalcy he had been used to for so many years.
