You've got nothing to prove, stay afraid

They boy's question was sudden. Hybrid could not restrain his laughter. After such a long silence, with the boy staring at him (and for some reason, staring at his face for far too long), Hybrid found the child's question disconcerting. But in a really, really funny way. Hybrid tried to keep his balance and failed miserably; the deep guffaws emanating from his chest were so sudden that he slid on a few pebbles and had to wobble sideways awkwardly to prevent his fall. This child was no threat. He was a very, very stupid thing, but a funny one nonetheless.

Hybrid's laughs dissipated eventually. Instead, he grinned, regarding the boy with feigned intent. "Oh, yes, oh, oh, yes," Hybrid replied, grin widening. He wondered if that had been a sexual innuendo (and had he just replied with oh, yes, oh, oh, yes? Was that not slightly...?) Hybrid frowned, then grinned again. He tended to confuse himself when he thought too much like that. Thought in circles, thought in squares, thought in pentagons. Thought in nothing and nowhere. Thought of nothing but today and this funny child.
