nowhere to go

Oceane knew that she wasn't suppose to stray too close to the water's edge but the slow rivers that ran through the packlands were so inviting. She liked to walk along the banks and see the lite minks, otters and beavers all hard at work and play. She wished that they would play with her but the smaller creatures either paid her no attention or scampered off quick as can be when they caught sight or scent of her. She had no clue where her siblings had wandered off to today so she'd ventured on her own, though she'd rather have found someone to bother and follow around.

She sat back on her haunches and peered through the underbrush at a family of beavers and the dam that they were creating. She didn't understand why in the world they would want to build something to block the water but she thought that it looked like a nice little bridge to cross to the other side. The small puppy crept out of the cover of the brush and slowly made her way to the edge of the bank where the dam began. Testing the dam with one paw she found the surface soft and flexible but sturdy enough to hold her weight. She stepped out further onto the dam and wagged her tail proudly at what she'd done. She was going to make it to the other side of the river in no time!
