Two more arrived and Cercelee went into the church to fetch some stored meat. One rabbit would not suffice, the four pups acted as if they were famished. Cercelee knew this was not the case, Slay kept them well fed, but growing pups always seemed famished. For a long moment she regarded the children, tumbling over one another and conversing in German which she could not understand. Having them all together, able to speak a secret language seemed to make some of them more resistant to speaking English than the others. Or perhaps it just made it harder for them to learn. Either way, often Cercelee would walk in on their private conversations and not be able to depict more than a word or two. It was only when she got them alone could she really motivate them to speak purely English, which was still broken and awkward coming from their mouths.

Setting the meat, venison, down at her feet she smiled. Their interactions often went like this, Catalyst and Catharsis at odds and Roulette and Avarice a team. Palindrome seemed to be the loner out of the bunch, and he either was taking his sweet time in arriving or planing not to at all. Catalyst approached, and Cercelee smiled and waved her tail to show appreciation for the girl’s efforts in communicating. “You are very welcome Catalyst. You know that.” Perhaps she was too indulgent in the pups, but they didn’t seem any worse for it.

The tone and posture of Avarice was concerning, and Cercelee eyed the sassy girl. Often it was best to let them sort out their own matters, especially when it was an ordeal to get one of them to tell her in English what the issue was. Still, she did her best to diffuse any hostility before it started. “Does anyone know where Palindrome is?” Azure eyes went from one child to the next, to the mangled rabbit that would be gone by the time the boy got here, if at all. He’d have to settle for the venison, which was less then fresh.
