There was something peculiar about the grey-hued woman’s behavior. Was she usually this jumpy, or did her insecurities stem from the mention of her children? Not only did they look alike, but Princess and Tokyo’s personalities were one of the same. The Caregiver blinked, as if doing so would help her shed light on the puzzle ahead. Her pack mate’s tone of voice was soft and held no vile intentions; Alexey sincerely doubted she was up to no good, but it was a possibility nonetheless. After all, the Lilium had given no indication of any underlying behavioral problems up until recently.

It seemed strange that the first question out of her mouth was about her, and not her daughter’s well-being. Almost as if her reputation was at stake, depending on the information Princess had divulged. “Nothing, just that she was looking for you,” she said, wrinkling her forehead in confusion. It was true; the teenager hadn’t said anything pertaining to Tokyo aside from basic information. Even if she’d had, the Acer probably wouldn’t have mentioned it.

An uncomfortable silence settled between the two women, and the sound of waves crashing onto the wooden dock seemingly became louder. Beige-colored ears twitched lightly, tickled by the salty breeze blowing from the north. “Oh, I’m Alexey. The pack’s pupsitter,” she explained, although her tone of voice seemed distant. Her mind was still attempting to decipher what kind of relationship Tokyo had with her daughter. “How did you two get separated, if you don’t mind me asking?” It was none of her business but Alexey had a habit of sticking her nose where it didn’t belong.
