A penguin? For a moment, Tayui paused in her smiles and thoughts, surprised Noir had chosen to answer her question with a question of her own. But a penguin? Tayui frowned. She hoped Honoré had not said anything to hurt Noir. This couldn't possibly be a result of trauma, could it? Tayui frowned, trying to recall the days of her childhood. Honoré had been, well, odd. She recalled that he had that effect on some people - leading them in circles they never wanting to go. Tayui regarded Noir for a moment, mulling the question over in her head. "They're a black and white bird that live in cold places. They can't fly, but they... wobble around. A lot," Tayui replied. She did not want to confuse Noir by giving her too much information (Tayui had been told she often did that -- talked about one topic for much longer than she needed to!), but at the same time, she had no idea where this question had come from.

Tayui leaned down to nuzzle her daughter as she spoke, moving in to smooth out Noir's fur with her tongue. The girl looked quite distressed now that she was answering Tayui's question. "A no-haired baby? And carried you upside down?" Tayui repeated, then glanced up at her brother, questions forming on the tip of her tongue. Noir had called him a girl and said his eyes were... poo? Tayui stifled a smirk. She could understand the last part, since Honoré always had reminded her of fecal matter. But a girl? Tayui tilted her head, torn between trying to examine Noir's reasoning and chastising Noir for calling Honoré names. She went with the latter. She could always ask Noir about this... poo comment later. "That wasn't very nice, Noir," Tayui said to her daughter. "You might have hurt Honoré's feelings. You don't want to hurt his feelings, now. You don't like it when your feelings are hurt," she finished, leaning down to nuzzle her daughter once more.

Tayui straightened up when she heard Honoré begin to speak, pausing for a moment when she realized he was speaking to her in French. Tayui had not used French in a very, very long time, so she was only able to catch bits and pieces of it. Tayui heard fatiguante, annoying, adopter, adopt, and serpent... snake? Tayui managed to make out most of the sentence, but those three words seemed to hold the essence of the conflict. A no-haired baby must have been a snake. Oh, dear. She would have to explain to Noir why snakes were not things to play with, even a baby. "Je comprends," she mouthed to Honoré. It seemed as though she remembered some of her native language.

At this, she turned to Noir, frowning. "Noir, sweetie, do you know what a snake is?" Tayui did not know if she had a book with a picture of one, but she would explain it as best she could. "It's long, with no legs or arms. Scaly. And it slithers around. But it has big, big teeth that can hurt. You have to be careful; Uncle Honoré lifted you up because the snake might have hurt you, and you don't want that, and neither do I," she stated, punctuating the last three words by licking Noir's cheek affectionately.
