holy b'jesus!

She was humiliated, confused and most of all sorry. Anu peeled her eyes away from the male and back to the fleeing kite. It road the wind like a fledgling, having just found its true wings and testing the air in hopes of mastering it. Still she could not speak, so shocked by her own actions and the revolution of the lifeless creature that her voice was lost after speaking those two words.

He would hate her, she decided. And feared looking at his face again. It was impossible to picture anger on his features; for she had never seen it before and she couldn’t imagine him being angry in the first place. But how could he not? It wasn’t until she saw his movement out of the corner of her eye that Anu turned to him again. He was calling her, summoning her forward and to follow. It was free? Anu thought of the word as she began to run.

Her legs moved automatically, before her eyes could focus on his face. She watched him, seeing the smile, seeing the glimmer in her eye and hearing the laughter form his mouth. Anu laughed too, at her insecurity and her unnecessary fright. It there was one thing that she could do it was run. Her light form almost glided over the ground, paws hardly touching the grass beneath her. She passed him, head up towards the sky and watching the kite fly to its freedom.

“The tree!” She yelled, pointing to the edge of the grassland that they had been frolicking in. The beast was headed right to it, as it it didn’t see the leaf thick fingers that called for its tail to wrap itself around.
