This too, felt like a lie. “Something happened to him after you left,” he amended, realizing that this was the truth. All of those children had changed; so much so that he had not recognized them when they had come again. They had chosen another world, one that did not involve the coyote clan or the brother that had raised them. And remarkably, Gabriel thought that this was for the best.
