Claudius could feel Noir's presence shifting, moving from one place to another in the den. He squinted at his sister, flinching when she moved to stand at the entrance of the den. Each time she moved, the sun changed. He could see that Noir also found the sun to be a little annoying (which it was! The sun was so mean!) as she squinted. Claudius yawned groggily, all the while wondering when everyone else was going to come home. Momma-Tay had told him she would be home soon and he knew that meant Attila had gone with her to go hurt things. Although Noir did not like hunting because it made her feel sad, Claudius did not like hunting because he was so bad at it. And, of course, Attila liked to make fun of him every time he messed up! Momma-Tay said he would have to learn how to hunt in his "own special way" because his one leg wasn't long enough, so he couldn't always walk well. But she also said one day he could learn to use his two-legged opp-teem form, and then he could hunt with them!

Until then, he was keeping Noir company in the den (or was Noir keeping him company? He did have to admit she was a lot stronger and cooler than he was...), and had been peacefully napping while they waited for the rest of the tribe members to return.

He grumbled and rolled over onto his other side, shutting his eyes tightly. He wanted to sleep! And Noir was being noisy! He shut his eyes tighter, trying to will himself to sleep, but was interrupted -- again. Noir shouted his name, and Claudius mumbled something in reply. He opened his eyes again, then frowned. A monster? No, no, no, Claudius did not like monsters!

"Noooiirr," he whined, "make it go away then!" He paused, torn between following her to the den and rolling over and pretending the monster was not there. But now he wanted to know what the monster was! He frowned, harrumphed, then sat up. He flattened his ears, eyeing his sister with a grimace. Maybe she should come back in the den...?

"Come back, Noiirr," he whispered, his voice cracking in the middle. He did not want to see any monsters!
