Let me show you the wonders of life


The library was empty and relatively dark, despite the sunshine pouring in the eastern windows. It was a slightly depressing atmosphere, but it was quiet, and it was what the femme was after. While she only owned three books of her own, the library in Halifax was the perfect place to peruse for further knowledge, something Hanna constantly strived to do, no matter what form the learning took. She stepped further into the vast area, her eyes wide, then made a large circle. Where to begin?


Her eyes settled on the historical section, and, wondering just what a historical book pertained to, she stepped toward it and withdrew a tome from the shelf. This particular one dealt with early American history, circa 1776. The first page she flipped to showed a picture of a weathered parchment with fancy scrawled writing on its top. Her eyes moved to the adjoining page and realized that the text on the parchment was also printed. She whispered the first part of the Declaration of Independence, rolling the words over her tongue.


"When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."


She frowned at the page, then snapped the book closed and tucked it under her arm and moved over to one of the long tables, selecting a chair with a bright sunbeam bathing it and opened the book again, beginning to decipher just exactly what the words before her were saying.
