The sky was an ominous dark gray above Xeris' head as she walked along in her lupus form. She hadn't meant to wander this far; she wanted to explore the forests to the north of Phoenix Valley but, as often happened, she had gotten rather lost. In looking around, the white wolf didn't see anyone. Sticking near the forest edge in case she had to bolt suddenly, Xeris quietly walked around the area. There was something different about this place. A heavy scent of others was present in the air, a scent that Xeris had never encountered before. It didn't even smell wolf-like.

Xeris remembered the last time she had wandered into another pack's territory. She remembered meeting Flayra and the other female's warning about the Inferni clan to the north. Could Xeris have wandered into Inferni territory? She suddenly felt a small rush of panic flow through her body. But she was surrounded by forest on all sides but one, tired, and confused; how could she possibly get home like this?

Maybe they wouldn't find her. Maybe they weren't as dangerous as she'd inferred from Flayra. Maybe she wasn't even in their territory. As the feeling of dread in the white wolf's body rose, she looked around warily as thunder rumbled in the distance.
