Ahh, it's gotta be really hard language to speak really well. They say the best way to learn a new language is to just immerse yourself in the speakers' world and get used to thinking in that language, but that'd be awful hard to do with Latin, hah. XD Amata's so cute. Big Grin

The big wolf listened eagerly as Amata spoke of her mother. It made him happy to know the youngster had a happy life waiting for her back at home. He didn't think he could bear to know she was just a wandering orphan, and though he could hardly take care of himself, he would have had to try take her under his wing. It was a relief to know he didn't have to, and he grinned a big smile. "Whoa, so your momma takes care of you and leads a whole pack? That's impressive," he said, rather reserved for once as he spoke genuinely. It was hard work taking care of a family, he knew. And a pack was like a really big and unrelated family, so it must be triple or even quadruple the work. The child continued, and it made more sense. With a strong mate by her side, Amata's mom had some support staff. "You'll be really smart and strong someday, then," he said with that same grin plastered across his muzzle.

At the mention of books and reading, Charon perked up. "I love books and stories," the man said, excited undertones in his voice now. Maybe Amata knew of a library with lots and lots of books. He'd looked for one to no avail in the city. He listened to her story, though, frowning as he tried to figure out what she meant. Like livestock? "Maybe it was his pet," the gray wolf ventured. He had never had a pet, but his younger sister had rescued a bird once, and kept it for a few months before letting it go. It had been kind of nice, but Charon shared the sentiment; why keep food around when it was just so edible?

He nodded. Thorns and burrs were the worst, but he supposed even plants had a right to protection. And since they couldn't move, they had to have stationary devices to keep them safe. He remembered the impatience of childhood and waiting to grow up, but now that he was much bigger he almost wished he could reverse time and re-experience the blissful youth of childhood again. In due time, he supposed; he could have a second childhood when he became a father and had free license to play and act like a puppy with his own kids all the time. "Me too," he said, laughing. He hadn't really saved her life, but he'd helped her. And he wouldn't correct her, either; it was nice to think that someone would hold him in high regard.

The big silver wolf stood up at her question, nodding his head enthusiastically. Maybe he would get to meet her mother and father? He wondered if they were both the alphas of the pack, and he wondered how far it was. No matter anyway—he wasn't about to leave Amata out here on her lonesome. "Most definitely, Miss Amata," the cloud-colored wolf said with a smile. "Where do you live? Can you walk on your paw?" he asked, not wishing to discomfort the girl if it was still too sore. It was an easy thing to shift to his Optime form and carry her in his arms, saving her the discomfort of being scruffed and carried the traditional way.
