He had not been awake for some time. The past two months had been a haze of existing — and nothing else. Hybrid could not remember feeling alive or awake or conscious or real in some time. It was a glorious feeling to be alive again; to know he was alive. His own consciousness was startling: he could feel his chest move each time he inhaled and exhaled, and he could feel the ground beneath his paws. Now that he was alive, he needed to see something die. No. That was crude. Now that he could feel, he needed to feel more. He needed, wanted, lusted for more. He licked his chops in anticipation. Greed. Greed. It was only one syllable, but it was so robust and full. He grinned. He was alive.

He began his descent down the steep rock face of the ravine, edging closer to the choppy water. He stared out at the waves, which appeared darker with the overcast sky. The day in general was quite miserable, and it only made Hybrid feel that much more real knowing he was there, existing. He was taking up space some other creature might have. He had existed for so long and no he was alive again. He could feel the spray of the cold water as it violently lapped against the rocks. He shivered and grinned.

He began to run. He started out slow, climbing back up the rocks, slowly making his way. But once he had cleared the ravine -- once he was out, away from the way and the pain and the spray and the cold -- and the fucking cold -- he began to run. He ran west until he was nearing the border of Inferni territory. He continued to run, letting his long Secui legs bring him farther from familiarity and comfort. Slowly, west turned into southwest, which then became south. Before he knew it, he was in Arachnea's Revenge, and was nearing the outskirts of Halifax. He grinned, then laughed. He felt alive.
