The city had long since become something of a home to Samael. Inferni had formally been a residence, but only as long as he’d been waiting for Kaena’s return. But Kaena was back, and Samael almost contemplated returning to the coyote clan simply to be at her side at all times. It would mean again bowing his head to his half-brother, but Kaena. Oh, he would do anything, anything at all for dear, sweet Kaena. She knew the truth and she’d accepted him, as only one as perfect as she could. She hadn’t abandoned him, casting him aside and cringing at his touch—a touch no longer innocent and pure as a child’s should be. Samael had never been pure, even from the moment he’d been born, but as far as he knew Razekiel and Ahemait didn’t adore their mother as he did. Samael was an oddity; an impurity, but nothing could remove his desire.

Into the forests he moved, departing the city for a brief hunting excursion. While he was loath to care for his body as a mere mortal ought to, Samael knew in order to keep moving he must occasionally behave as a normal coyote. Despite this, he was lean and rangy—far more muscled than he’d been years prior, but still a skeletal beast. A peculiar scent entered his senses and with bloodlust running high, the monstrous coyote began to stalk his ill-fated prey. Movements silent and deadly, he raced across the ground after the creature. Moving into range, he leapt from the bushes, baring knife-like fangs toward the canine’s throat.
