Fresh Start and Lonely Heart

Darkness was fast approaching, and with an exhausted sigh, the young four month-old orphaned pup continued on his walk, with all the energy she still had in her tiny little body she jumped over dead tree trunks, climbed over gray rocks and sniffing every print she saw on the earthy surface, prints left behind by other Wolves that were long-gone. How she wanted to meet somebody new, she hadn't seen anybody, heard any howls in so long! She was so hungry, so tired, and a so lonely. She wanted to play with somebody other than herself, cuddle up against a Wolf that was all warm and soft.

She wanted to make friends, and go on amazing adventures! To be honest, Talamar was a scared to be alone one more night. She had only been on her own for a week now, left to fend for herself. She didn't know where her Family was, she had simply gone for a walk about a hundred feet south, when she'd returned, another Pack had taken the place of her own Pack, leaving behind nothing but the still body of her Uncle. Why had her Uncle been lying there anyway? She still couldn't understand it, she couldn't understand many things, but she had known back there that she couldn't go see her Uncle, her instinct told her she had to run.

So for six days that's what she'd done. Sure, she was only four months, but she was capable of running, she was getting bigger. She would probably die if she didn't find a Pack soon, but she didn't even consider that possibility. She was too tired to think straight actually, too tired and too hungry. Cold was also beginning to be an issue. In late September, the weather was chillier. She wasn’t used to this kind of Weather. She continued to walk along until she found a small, icy cold stream. She was thirsty; it was only now that she realized it.

As the liquid soothed her dry throat, she continued to imagine the next time she would meet a Wolf. It was going to be great; she would get to sleep without having to look behind her shoulder at every crack. She would have a meal in her belly; she would maybe have friends so that she wouldn’t be alone. Who knows, she would maybe find her Family somewhere safe, away from the mean Pack that had stolen all their food and territory.

After drinking for a minute or two, Talamar continued on her way, it felt as if she’d walked 1000 miles these past six days, but honestly it had only been five. She was slowly losing speed too, she would probably never find a clearing; never find a new, permanent home. She was about to collapse, she felt her paws ready to give in, giving up sounded good, but that’s when she smelled it. It was a strong smell, Wolves only a good fifty feet away from her frail, shaking body. Her ears perked up as a howl – the first howl in six days – echoed in the distance.

The corners of her furry mouth twitched into somewhat of a smile, and then the Pup howled back, though it wasn’t strong enough for anyone to hear really, no one that wasn’t at least ten feet away. Someone had to save her, but what if no one did? Talamar forced her little legs to walk a little more. She was closer now; the scent was strong, very, very strong! Sure, it wasn’t a scent she recognized, and if she was in her right mind, she would know it wasn’t very smart of her to come here without permission…

But she wasn’t in her right mind, now was she? Close to where the Wolves actually lived, Talamar decided that they would find her when they passed by, she only had to hope it was in the next hour, or else she might not make it. The young wolf collapsed on the ground, shutting her golden eyes to rest a little. If no one was to find her, she would walk closer, maybe find someone herself. That was how she was, independent and could easily adapt to anything life threw at her.
