Rurik might have been a better father this time around to his children, but he understood the motivations behind childrens' actions no better for it. He was at a loss as to what to do with the young canine; she didn't appear to be physically harmed or in any particular danger, yet she had remained quiet at his question, peering at Rurik with striking, strangely-colored eyes. For a moment, Rurik peered back at Lily, who only shrugged and rolled her eyes, eager to move on either way. Rurik tried on another smile, kneeling down to be on the youngster's level. She'd sat up, at least, so that was a good thing.

The silvery wolf was still some distance from the child, and on the respectful side of the border, naturally—he wasn't totally unfamiliar with how these places worked, and he wasn't looking to step on any toes. "Are you waiting for someone?" he asked, thinking perhaps since she was stationed out here on the border, she might have a reason for it. Lily stood a few feet behind her dad, still peering down at the younger canine rather blankly, poking the dirt with her toe. She didn't know how to relate to younger kids at all, and they tended to irritate her more often than not.
