Her inability to completely understand Vieira was similar to her inability to understand her mother. Unbeknownst to her, both had suffered a lot in their early lives and it had done a lot to shape who they were now. Rikka's childhood had had its rough patches, but she had never suffered abuse and neglect. If she had she might have been able to put herself more into their places, but without that knowledge it was hard for her to do. There was probably a part of her that didn't want to. Not that she expected them to get over what had happened to them and just be fine, not at all, but for her own sanity the de le Poer woman tried to focus on the brighter side of life. She was well aware of the ugliness in the world, but she tried not to pay as much attention to it. She needed to believe that the world was mostly good and that things could change for the better.

Though Vieira's next words shed a little more light on her situation. Being a slave wasn't something that was new to her, this was just the continuation of a life-long pattern. Still, that didn't make Kaena's continual of that pattern any better. Her mother knew what abuse was like and she should have recognized it in this girl and wanted to help her, not use her. Slowly Rikka reached out to the other female, her hand lightly resting on her knee. Golden eyes searched her face, trying to make eye contact. "You're not different." She had been brainwashed to think that, but it wasn't true. "They made you think you're different, but you're not Vieira. You're the same as anyone else. What they did to you was wrong, and I'm sorry." She had no clue who the "they" were, but they obviously existed. It didn't matter if Rikka had nothing to do with what had happened to her, she was still sorry. Nothing like this should ever happen.
