The hybrid was indeed quiet and indifferent as the other canine worked, lost in her own thoughts as she turned the still-clothed knife over and over in her hand, remembering the way it had sliced through her flesh, the way the blood had spilled and dripped down her ribs. More clearly, the coyote recalled plunging it into Astaroth's flesh to the hilt, twisting it about and spilling his blood in turn. The silver-furred woman was hardly haunted by these memories, but she could not help but think of them when she held this object in her hands.

The hybrid's eyes were drawn to the fish in the pan, her nose attracted by the smell of cooking flesh. Vieira seemed mostly absorbed in the task of cooking; the hybrid took this distraction to gaze at her openly, her golden eye slicing over the other canine's body. In her optime form, Vieira was slight and petite, quite a bit lighter than Kaena and built more thinly. The ashen-furred hybrid had the advantage of wolf's blood to thicken her limbs and increase her stature, though she was still distinctly different from a pureblood anything. Kaena could not help but think that Vieira was pretty; she was pretty. Kaena had to have been a little attracted to her, at least—otherwise she would not have done those horrible sexual things to her. It wasn't all about power struggles, though the hybrid coyote knew that was the bigger part of it.

The silvery coyote sat up, leaning forward toward Vieira. There was a few feet between them, but the hybrid was close for the fire. She set the cloth-wrapped knife next to her and leaned into the fire, finding it awkward now to speak, as if the silence drilled her. For the first time in a long time, the quiet made Kaena feel strangely, it unnerved her. Yet she figured Vieira would not speak unless spoken to. "Astaroth taught you how to cook?" she asked, her golden eye on the tawny shoulders of the other canine.
