The tawny canine remained quiet after that, and the elder of the pair shut her mouth as well, thinking perhaps she'd done quite enough damage in interrogating Vieira about her family. Kae ought to have known it was a sore subject, but perhaps some optimistic part of her thought that maybe the family Vieira had outside of Astaroth had been good to her. Kaena knew what Vieira had meant by saying she had no family; the hybrid knew she had blood family beyond Astaroth. She had said Dieriel was Astaroth's sister; that made her Vieira's aunt, obviously. The hybrid understood, sort of, and in a way this was greater insight to Astaroth's family than she might have gleaned if Vieira had simply tried to explain it.
The fish was finished, it seemed, and the silver-furred hybrid was glad to have something to distract them from the conversation, so she pulled it back slowly, setting it on the ground next to the fire. The coyote was not stupid enough to stick her fingers into the frying pan, so she plucked the dagger from behind her and reached forward with it, sticking the pointed end of the crystal dagger into the filleted flesh, prying it off of the pan and holding it up for a moment, allowing it to cool in the air before attempting to grasp it in her hand, lest she burn herself on the hot food. Her single eye flicked to Vieira for a moment, gauging her for a reaction. In a way, this was the silvery hybrid implying to the younger canine what had happened, admitting her own crimes to the daughter of the dark-furred coyote.
