a pistol shot at five o'clock.

It would seem most of the loner canines of the world had smartened up and moved south or joined up with a pack in time for winter. Those that remained were either weathered to the cold by seasons spent in a Canadian winter, or just idiots seeking a deathwish. The wintertime in this part of the world was no joke, and even a strong, young canine could easily find him or herself starving and frozen half to death in the blink of an eye. The silver-furred hybrid had scraped by some of the winters in this area, and though she welcomed it, she also knew she faced quite the worthy adversary, especially for a creature as old as she was.

The ash-furred coyote remained still for a moment, and just as she was to move, a grayish blur in the distance caught her attention. The movement drew her single golden eye and she squinted, strained to make out the advancing sight of another canine. Wolf or coyote, the silver-furred hybrid did not know, and she did not consider that it might have been a dog, as many were hybrids of the canis familiaris variety in today's world. The cloud-furred female moved without an apparent purpose to Kaena, so she remained where she was, uncertain whether to simply dart away or wait and see what happened.

Her coal nose twitched several times, inhaling to scent the wolf's coat for signs of Haku or Dahlia de Mai, anything similar to that. The hybrid almost wished she were white-coated to better blend in with the snow; as the other canine approached the silver-furred coyote realized she had been spotted without a doubt, though the gray-furred canine seemed to want to wait for Kaena to acknowledge her. The hybrid hesitated at this, calculating. If this was an enemy, she would not have paused, she would have kept charging while she had the best element of surprise. That was absolutely ruined now, and the canine did not look particularly malicious. Putting on her stoic face, the hybrid tried to quell the feverish fear that knotted in her core at all times now, speaking to the wolf. "Enjoying the snow?" she queried, trying to sound tough and as if she hadn't been doing the very same a moment before. The hybrid had no idea how successful that attempt was.
